Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art

Tehran's Museum of Contemporary Art (TMOCA) is an art museum in Tehran, Iran.
Built in 1977, the museum was built next to Tearan Laleh Park, designed by Iranian architect Kamran Diba, who used elements from traditional Persian architecture. The building can be regarded as an example of contemporary art in itself. Most of the museum areas are subterranean.
It is considered the most valuable collection of Western modern art outside Europe and the United States, a collection largely composed of the founding of curators David Galloway and Donna Stein under the patronage of Farah Pahlavi. It is said that it is worth about 2.5 billion dollars worth of modern art in the museum. The museum houses a revolving program of exhibitions and occasionally organizes exhibitions by local artists.

An interesting discussion is worth comment.
I do think that you should write more on this topic, it might not be a taboo matter
but generally people do not talk about these topics.

“Perisan contemporary artists”
Location is quiet central, so you could easily add it to your itinerary. The museum displays pieces from known and also budding Persian artists, many of whole has exhibited in Europe. Overall the level of works was above my expectation considering the sensitivity and limitation on the art works in Iran. Museum's garden also houses contemporary statues, so don't forget to have an stroll outside

Museum also owns some famous pieces, e.g. a Monet, quiet a few Andy Warhol, ... It's a shame they are not on display, it would've taken the whole experience to another level!

Tip: The museum site seems to be under construction, meanwhile check their Facebook page. It provides some info about the current exhibits

“Unexpected gem! ”
Such a nice but overlooked museum with a great collection of modern art! All the big names are represented, we loved Warhol, Picasso, Munch and Riviera. Totally unexpected for Iran!
